" My Supports"

What does support means too me?
Supports means, having people in your life everyday that is there to support you through challenges, careers, crisis, disappointments or what ever you are going through. They build a rapport to make sure you stay on task by meeting these goals and challenges. They are the voices that you constantly hear.

My daily environment supporters are my family, friends, and co workers. They are my supports through emotionally, physically and intellectually. My family starts me off every morning with a "I love you" call. They tell me to have a great day. My sister is there to listen when I feel like I need to give up. She is my motivated, and supports me emotionally. My friends are they when I need the extra shoulder to lean on. My co-workers support me by working as a team and making our program a success.
I always wonder what I would do without these people in my life. I never want to feel alone, and they remind me constantly that they are there and will support me always. I benefit from the positive things that is provided throughout our conversations. They keep me motivated and striving for the best. Without these supporters, I would be lost. I wouldn't know what to do if I lost any of these supporters. I need to be able to express my self and for these supporters to be there to listen. I see things going down hill and me not accomplishing my goals. My life would be empty; an open space. I need them, and without them; I am nothing!

My biggest challenge is working a fulltime job, a part-time job and going to school. They are days when I just wake up and cry. I literally want to just stop! I get angry because I feel like I am missing out on life and everything that is around me. This is when those supporters jump in. They encourage me to keep moving forward. They remind me why I chose to return to school. They remind me of my goals that I always talk about. These people lift me up constantly. Again, I will say; I need these supporters to help me finish this challenge and complete my goals. I feel everyone need positive supporters. Everyone need some people that are there every day. I am a supporter to these people also. I play a big factor in there lives when they are struggling. My life will be invisible with out each and everyone of them.

As a teacher my students support me by giving me hugs, and smiles everyday. When IO walk in the classroom, I know that I am in the right place. I know that I have a purpose, and it is my students. My students teach me things, and we learn from each other. They know when my day is bad. They comfort me, by asking me; am I okay. Children can be the best supporters in the world.

  1. Wow! You are working two jobs and study at the same time?! That must be physically and emotionally exhausting! You must have extraordinary time management skills. Here you go - lots of kisses and hugs from Hong Kong! XDDDDD

    1. Thank you Toni! Yes, it physically and emotionally drains me! I have these supporters that embrace me everyday. I always wanted to pursue my Master's. I do have days when I just want to give up, but my family, friends, and co-workers always remind me of where I should be in my life. Thanks for your reply!

  2. Hi,Guadalupe
Your blog shows you have a strong support system in your life. I also, chose my family and co-workers,and my students as a a source of support on a daily basis. As teachers, you really nailed it when you mentioned the hugs, smiles and affection from those little darlings we work each day.
I would like to commend you on your dedication to parenthood as well. I have walked down the same path in life, worked two fulll time jobs to support my children, so I can tell you from personal experience, "Don't give up, there is a reward and what an example for your children."Every sacrifice has a reward and everything has its time and place, you will get a chance to experience any thing you feel you are missing out on.
Keeping strive, and never give up on your goal. Look at me , just went back to school and received my Bachelor's degree last year and now striving for my Master's at theage of 64(65 in February).

    1. Amazing Veryl! You are 64 years of age! Kudos to you!I was feeling bad going back to school at the age of 49. Thank you for your inspiring words. I needed to hear that from someone that has and is walking in my shoes. As teachers we need to embrace those hugs and smiles. My boyfriend sends me this song sometimes when I am at work. It is called, "IM sending you a Kiss." That song always come at the right time! Thanks for the reply

  4. Guadalupe,
So glad to hear you have supportive coworkers and a great relationship with them. I find that that can do so much for a person! I feel the same way about who I work with - we are more than coworkers, we are family and friends. Sometimes, when I'm having a stressful time, all I need to do is sit back and talk for a few minutes with a coworker, head into their classroom to enjoy a few minutes with them and the kids, or have a meeting where we make life fun and interesting for a few minutes. That support is invaluable! So glad you have it to support you!

  5. It is interesting to me that you mention anger, I get angry too, but not so much about missing out on life (my family has a lot going on right now too so I think that helps, if they were just sitting at home I'd feel angry about missing time with them). But my anger is towards other locals in my profession that aren't as dedicated as I am and those that talk the talk but don't walk the walk. We learn about all the things children need and a lot of those are things that need advocates to help get them put in place or to advocate for funding, when there is only a handful of us in the area supporting those things, it makes me angry. How can you feel passionate enough to pick a job in the early childhood field, but not support all the causes...

  6. Guadalupe, I can relate to your feelings of wanting to give up and quit! I work long hours and have 5 children and 2 grandchildren of my own. I often feel that my work/home life is extremely out of balance and it makes me depressed sometimes. I have to remember during those times that I am pursuing my master's degree for ME and that I am important too! Keep up the good work!
